Pre Budget Submissions

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland rolls out a national and localised lobbying campaign surrounding our Pre Budget Submissions. This work includes the national launch of our submission to politicians and senators and the roll out of the submission at local level.

The primary aim of our Pre Budget Submissions is to secure awareness from TDs across political parties and to encourage debate and interest in our Pre Budget recommendations.

Pre Budget Submission 2015

Government is not doing enough for people with dementia living at home and Budget 2015 must change this. Resourcing community supports and services is critical to support carers to care for longer in the home and to support people with dementia to live well in their communities. Our pre-Budget submission calls for Government to adequately resource community based care for people with dementia and their carers. We are specifically calling on Government to:

1. Ensure adequate resourcing of dementia specific home care and community based services and supports
2. Ensure equal access to community based supports across the country
3. Ensure that budgets for people with dementia are transparent, measurable and ring-fenced at regional and national level

Pre Budget Submission 2014

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland launched the Pre-Budget Submission for 2014 at the Royal Irish Academy on 19th June 2013.  Speakers at the launch included Gerry Martin, CEO of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Director of NEIL in Trinity College, Professor Ian Robertson who highlighted the importance of dementia prevention and former businesswoman Helen Rochford-Brennan, who spoke about her personal experience of being diagnosed with early-onset dementia.

The Pre-Budget Submission for 2014 called on Government to make dementia a political priority, to ensure a National Dementia Strategy is published, with a focus on timely diagnosis and cost effective post-diagnostic interventions and to commit to enhancing provision of education and support services for carers.
