Eat a balanced diet, eat regularly and include healthy snacks during the day.

Keep hydrated, drink water and fruit juice as part of your daily routine. Talk to your doctor, especially if you are taking medication, about particular food and drinks that you should take or avoid.

Some suggestions for a balanced diet include:

  • Eat Fish, especially oily fish such as salmon, trout, makeral, sardines. It can be fresh, tinned or frozen. Have two portions a week.
  • Eat Fruit- 2-3  per day. A glass of juice or a piece of fruit is a portion. Consider organges, berries, bananas, kiwis, grapes, melon and pineapples.
  • Eat Vegetables – 2-3 portions a day. Two large tablespoons is one portion. Especially think about greens – peas, broccoli, spinach, asparagus, beans and lentils.
  • Eat Wholemeal, grain cereals – at least 3 servings per day. 1 serving is a slice of wholegrain bread, half cup brown rice or a cup of wholegrain cereal. Consider bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, breakfast cereals.

Don’t forget to treat yourself too! 

  • A piece of cake, a bar of chocolate or a biscuit is fine as part of a balanced diet.
  • Drink alcohol in moderation, a glass of wine or beer on occasion. If you are taking medication, check with your doctor first.

Smoking:

Smoking is always harmful to your health and it is never too late to benefit from giving up. Talk to your doctor about giving up today.
