Health Service Executive, HSE

The HSE is responsible for the delivery of both community and hospital based services to people living in Ireland.

If you or your loved one has been diagnosed with dementia, your local health office will be able to provide you with details of the services that may be available to you. Services can vary from county to county so it is important to check with your local office.

A key person within the HSE team is your public health nurse. The public health nurse can help you access services such as home care, home help and home care packages and respite services.

Public health nursing service are free to medical card holders, although not exclusively. Public health nursing services are free to all people over 65 and to those with a long term illness. However, availability of public health services can vary considerably from one area to another. You can find out who your public health nurse is by contacting your HSE local health office.

Other key areas provided by the HSE include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, chiropody and social services.
