Virtual and Online Fundraising Events #DoItForDementia!!

We’ve all had to make big changes in our lifestyles due to Covid-19. This means that a lot of the traditional fundraising events are not possible at the moment. However you can still keep in touch with your family, friends, followers or colleagues and raise funds for a great cause with some of our online fundraising ideas. We’ve given some tips on some good platforms to host your events and to take donations online from around the world.

We have ideas to suit all interests. Remember, whatever online event you are planning, #DoItForDementia. If you have an idea that is not covered below just fill in your details through the online form and we will be happy to support you in making your idea a reality.

Keep Moving in May

In this challenge we are asking you to cover 2km a day in May, or 62km in total. The “Keep Moving in May” challenge is the perfect way to make those steps count all while supporting a great cause. Walk or run 2km each day throughout the month of May to raise much needed funds for those living with dementia in Ireland. You can take part in your own time and anywhere across the country, near your home or in your local park. Our only ask is to make sure to do it safely and in line with the latest government advice. Go The Distance Challenge

We are delighted announce our virtual run/walk -The Go The Distance Challenge. Walk or run the distance of a Marathon (42km) during the month of April to raise much needed funds for those living with dementia in Ireland. You can take part in your own time anywhere across the country, near your home or in your local park.  Cover the distance over as many days as you want. Our only ask is that you make sure to take part in line with the latest government advice around outdoor exercise. What’s more, everyone who signs up will be entered into a draw with the chance of winning a €50 iTunes voucher.

The Go The Distance Challenge has now finished but you may be interested in our new virtual challenge: ‘Keep Moving in May.’ 

 

Cyclists

There are still lots of online options so you can keep active on your bike while respecting government guidelines around exercise.

Hold an Online Cyclathon –   Live stream yourself cycling your exercise bike at home and ask for donations online through an online fundraising page such as everydayhero. Set yourself a time or distance challenge – cycle the Tour de France in your spare room, the Giro d’Italia in the kitchen – the options are endless.

Get the whole cycling club involved in this with a virtual team challenge and add up all of the kilometres cycled by everyone individually on their exercise bike at home. Think Dublin to Dubai, Cork to Cape Town, Galway to Geneva, Limerick to Lisbon.You can set up an online fundraising page with everydayhero so people can donate to you from all over the world from the comfort of their own homes. Share the link to your page out through cycling club social media.

Host a Virtual Group Ride – Get the club together virtually from their own homes for a group ride with Zoom or Zwift. Open it up to other clubs to join you also. You can ask for donations to participate through your everydayhero page.

Online Gaming

Whatever your favourite game, stream as you play it online for as long as you like and take donations throughout the stream. You could host a tournament and get all of your gaming friends from around the world involved. Set up an online fundraising page through JustGiving which you can link to Twitch to stream the action.

Online Classes:

Art, yoga, spinning, baking – whatever your talent is take it online, host a class and raise funds for The Alzheimer Society of Ireland. Promote your class on your social media and stream through your preferred platform. Set up an online fundraising page to collect donations which you can share throughout your stream. everydayhero is a popular online fundraising platform.

This is a great way to stay in touch with your online followers and raise funds for a great cause at the same time.

Musicians and Talent Shows

Have a great night by hosting an talent show for your friends and family Set a theme for the night and ask everyone to dress up  – Elvis night, Beatles Songs, 80’s – whatever you want. Ask everyone to make their donation beforehand to your online fundraising page – Facebook  or everydayhero are both good options here. Then set up your meeting on Zoom and send everyone who has donated the link to join the fun.

If you’re a performer missing the buzz of the stage then organise a performance for your adoring fans. You might gain some new fans along the way. Stream through your preferred platform and share the link to your online fundraising page throughout the show. Try Facebook or everydayhero to take your donations.

Quiz Night

Everyone can still take part in this long-time favourite fundraiser. Organize a great night online and find out who is the Mastermind of your family and friends.

Ask everyone to make their donation beforehand to your online fundraising page – Facebook  or everydayhero are useful here. Then set up your meeting on Zoom and let everyone know when the fun starts. Don’t forget the dingbats round.

Hair and Beard Shave

Grow out those locks until you can get to the barber again for a great cause. Set up your online fundraising page on Facebook and share what you are doing throughout your social media. Post updates as your beard and hair gets longer and longer. When the big day arrives for it all to come off stream through your favourite platform – Facebook Live or Youtube – so everyone can join in the fun.
