September is World Alzheimer’s Month, and every year, people from around the world come together to raise awareness and challenge the stigma surrounding dementia.
Today, more than 55 million people around the globe live with dementia, among them 69,949 people in Ireland.
This year, the theme is “The Earlier You Know, The More You Can Do: A Dementia Diagnosis Matters,” tackling the persistent stigma and discrimination surrounding dementia by shining a spotlight on the timely and important issue of early diagnosis.
Using the hashtags #EarlyDiagnosisMatter, #AlzheimerDiagnosisMatters and #DementiaDiagnosisMatters, the campaign aims to raise awareness of the benefits of an early diagnosis.
World Alzheimer’s Day is held on Monday, September 21st.

What can I do to support World Alzheimer’s Month?
This World Alzheimer’s Day, thousands of feet will hit the ground for one powerful reason – to walk for memories, for awareness, and for a future without dementia.
Join Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, supported by Aviva, on Sunday, September 20th, as we come together in locations across the country to remember and honour those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia – and the families who stand beside them every step of the way.
By walking, sharing, and asking questions about Alzheimer’s and dementia, we can help challenge stigma.
