European Elections 2019

There is no disease-modifying treatment currently available for dementia. There is varied access to diagnosis, treatment and high-quality care in Ireland and across all Member States.

EU institutions must show leadership by making dementia a priority in the fields of health, research and innovation, and social affairs.

Around 9.1 million people in Europe have dementia and these numbers are expected to increase to 14 million people by 2040, due to the ageing of European societies.  In Ireland, 55,000 people are living with dementia.

About the European Dementia Pledge
#DementiaPledge2019

The European Dementia Pledge 2019 is a campaign run by The Alzheimer Society of Ireland and Alzheimer Europe calling upon Irish candidates in the European elections to make dementia a European priority and sign this #DementiaPledge2019.

We want candidates to sign the European Dementia Pledge and in doing so show their commitment to people with dementia and their carers. Candidates can contact us at advocacy@alzheimer.ie to sign the Dementia Pledge.
