Waterford/Tipp Virtual Alzheimer Cafe on Tuesday 1st Sept, 11.30 am, speaker will be Leonie Baldwin who is a carer herself, her talk will be on Mindfulness and Self-care. For contact details and how to access the virtual cafe click here

Meath Virtual Alzheimer Cafe on Wednesday, 2nd Sept at 11am. Cafe’s Guest Speaker will be: Rose Marie Murphy, RPN, qualified yoga teacher and therapist. Rose Marie will speak about Yoga, its suitability for everyone, and how when practiced on a regular basis it can improve our mental and physical health. ● Week Starting Monday, 7th September 2020

Louth/Monaghan Virtual Alzheimer Cafe on Tuesday 8th Sept at 4.30pm. The speaker is Maeve Montgomery, the Dementia Advisor for Cavan, Monaghan and Louth. Maeve will talk about encouraging eating during Covid 19. For contact details and how to access the virtual cafe click here.

As part of a Dementia Adviser Webinar Series, Maureen Mannion, Galway Dementia Adviser will be running the Galway Virtual Alzheimer Cafe on Tuesday 15th Sept at 11am, guest speaker is Bairbre-Ann Harkin from Irish Museum of Modern Art, IMMA and will be talking about”Dementia Inclusive Art Appreciation – Talking Art with IMMA”. ● Week Starting Monday, 14th September 2020

Alzheimer’s Memory Walk: Our first ever Alzheimer’s Memory Walk is taking place on Sunday, September 20th. Get involved in this feel-good and uplifting occasion to mark World Alzheimer’s Month and plan your very own (socially-distanced) Memory walk, solo, with your family or within your community. So, whether that is 5km, 10km or whatever distance you choose – It’s Your Walk, Your Way. You can register here 

Launch of the Irish Dementia Cafe Network: This will take place on Thursday, 17th of September at 11.00am, Miriam O’Callaghan is doing the official launch.  This event is hosted by Engaging Dementia who have co-ordinated the development of the Cafe Network. Member of our Irish Dementia Working Group Kevin Quaid and his wife, and member of our Dementia Carers Campaign Network, Helena, are both speaking at the launch.

● Week Starting Monday, 21st September 2020

Alzheimer Disease International: Monday, 21st September, World Alzheimer’s Day, which is an important day for galvanising attention and calling on governments to act for the millions of people living with dementia globally, the ADI is taking the opportunity to launch their World Alzheimer Report 2020 ‘Design, dementia and dignity’.

Pre-Budget Submission 2021: More information to follow in the week starting 21st September.

Memory Song: Two Irish-based singer-songwriters Aural Air aka Laura Rai and Patrick McEleney will release a standalone musical collaboration ‘Memory’ a song on September 22nd that looks at an experience of living with dementia to raise much-needed funds for The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (The ASI) during World Alzheimer’s Month 2020.

As part of a Dementia Adviser Webinar Series, Ana Dalton and Joanne Brennan, North Dublin Dementia Advisers and Jean Scanlan, South Dublin Dementia Adviser will be hosting a webinar on Tuesday 22nd of September at 11am with Guest Speaker: Regina Lafferty, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Dementia, Mental Health Services for Older Persons, Ashlin Centre, Beaumont Hospital. ● Week Starting Monday, 28th September 2020

Activities Week: During the Covid-19 crisis and with our vital face-to-face day care centres closed, our operations and admin staff have been sending hundreds Activity Packs to people with dementia all over the country. These have been a lifeline for people. So, during Activities week we will be looking at online activities for people with dementia such as music, yoga and nutrition.

Glasnevin (Dublin) Virtual Alzheimer Cafe on Tuesday 29th of Sept at 11am. There will be a guest speaker from SAGE Advocacy and the topic will be”Advocating for the Person Living With Dementia”. For contact details and how to access the virtual cafe click here.

As part of a Dementia Adviser Webinar Series, Amy Murphy and Vanessa Bradbury, Dementia Advisers for the Southern region will be hosting a webinar on Wednesday 30th of September at 10am with guest speakers will be Professor D. First Virtual Community Champions’ Cafe: On Wednesday, 30th September (12.30pm) the Dementia Understand Together Team will host their first Virtual Community Champions’ Cafe and are inviting all Champions to participate.
