Information for Professionals

What is TeamUp for Dementia Research?

TeamUp for Dementia Research is a service where people living with dementia and their families can register their interest in participating in dementia research.

Participant recruitment is a significant challenge in dementia research. This service aims to bridge the gap between people living with dementia and their families and to provide opportunities to participate in research studies.

TeamUp for Dementia Research is managed by The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (The ASI) in collaboration with Dementia Research Network Ireland (DRNI).

How does TeamUp for Dementia Research Work?

  1. People living with dementia and family caregivers register their interest in participating in research projects.
  2. The ASI securely store their details on a database including demographics, diagnosis information, and research preferences.
  3. When a suitable project arises, The ASI searches the database using specific study parameters and find people that are likely to be eligible to participate.
  4. The ASI lets eligible people know about the research opportunity and links them with the research team.
  5. The person then decides if they would like to take part in the study.

Caroline Jennings - NUI Galway

We are so grateful to the TeamUp for Dementia staff for their help, support and contribution to our research. As part of our research, we wanted to assess if mindfulness-based music would relieve family carer burden. TeamUp have been extremely professional in connecting us with the right participants. Without this service, the research would not have taken place and provided us with results.

Katie Togher, Betty Killeen, Rosie Connolly - University of Limerick

As part of our research on priorities for developing stroke services in Ireland, we wanted to include the voice of people with post-stroke dementia and vascular dementia, and their family members. The TeamUp for Dementia Research team were more than helpful in putting us in touch with people who matched our criteria and were interested in taking part. We are grateful to TeamUp for their support, and to the participants themselves for being so generous with their time and in sharing their experiences.

Dr. Eithne Sexton - RCSI Dublin
